A fire erupted three days ago on an offshore oil rig operating in the eastern Mediterranean Sea within Turkey’s exploration zone. The incident occurred at approximately 3:42 p.m. local time, originating from the power room inside the engine room. The rig was hosting several contractors at the time, including interior design specialists working on accommodation, office, and control-room fit-outs as part of a multi-million-dollar offshore development. Emergency alarms were activated immediately, and all personnel were evacuated from affected areas. Firefighting teams managed to contain the blaze within hours, preventing it from spreading to critical production systems. No fatalities were reported, though a small number of workers were treated for smoke inhalation. Authorities have launched an investigation, with early indications pointing to an electrical fault. Operations on the platform remain temporarily suspended as safety inspections continue.
